Choosing a glider
Three layers are worked out for a particular glider: PFD, XC speed and thermal strength. The other layers describe the air, and are the same whichever glider you fly.
Why the glider matters
Section titled “Why the glider matters”Gliders differ in two ways that matter here:
- How well they glide. A better glider loses less height between thermals, so it can fly faster and further on the same day.
- How slowly they sink while circling. A glider that sinks less in a turn climbs better in the same thermal.
Choosing yours
Section titled “Choosing yours”Without an account the map is worked out for a default glider. With a free account, open Settings, choose Aircraft and pick your glider from the list. The map is worked out for it straight away, everywhere you look.
The title card on the map always names the glider and the wing loading the map was made for.
Which gliders are listed
Section titled “Which gliders are listed”We only list gliders whose performance we have from a real source: the flight manual or the maker’s own figures. That keeps every glider in the list honest.
Missing your glider? Mail info@soarscope.eu and please attach a copy of its flight manual, so we can add it from the real figures.
